I am on my way to a big conference.
I didn’t really feel like going.
My schedule has been hectic lately. As an introvert, constant social engagements and work obligations can leave me feeling tired and drained.
But hey, it’s good for business and it’s good for me so here I am. I’m going.
And then I realize that my attitude determines my outcome. My attitude precisely determines my experience for the next three days.
So the position I have chosen as of now is, “This conference is going to change my life.”
And you know what? It really could.
The more I keep repeating it, kind of as a joke, the more I believe it. The more my energy starts to buzz at a higher vibrant and my energy lifts.
The amazing thing about life is that we never know what is going to change it all, even after the moment has passed.
When I was in 10th grade my dear friend invited me to California with her family. I had never been to “Cali” as they say, and I was thrilled.
We rode a tandem bike in Venice, bought floppy sun hats in Santa Monica and hiked in the hills while blasting Miley Cyrus “Party in the U.S.A”.
Never did I think of that trip as a life-changing trip. A fun trip? Definitely. A silly trip? 100%. A trip to remember? Yup.
Not until six years later when I graduated from college and moved out to LA (and haven’t come back since) did I realize that that trip changed my life. That trip burrowed in my head and my heart, reminding me of how much I loved the west coast.
All of the small and magical moments in life have the power to propel us down our intended path.
It’s highly possible that this conference will change my life. THIS CONFERENCE IS GOING TO CHANGE MY LIFE!
Fill in the blank for your far-fetched (as you may see it) affirmation. It could be…
“THIS NIGHT SLEEP IS GOING TO BE THE BEST SLEEP OF MY LIFE”
“THIS INTERVIEW IS GOING TO CHANGE MY LIFE”
“THIS BOOK IS GOING TO SHIFT MY PERSPECTIVE”
“I’M GOING TO FIND MY BEST FRIEND AT THIS EVENT”
Worst case, it doesn’t happen. The conference is a bust and you toss and turn all night.
Best case is that your positive, enthusiastic and open-minded energy creates more opportunities for magic that likely would have gone unnoticed if you weren’t looking for them.
This mindset changes my life.
You can change yours, too.
